Leadership in the technology arena is not about being a first adopter of technology. Leadership in technology is how you lead your team. We view technology as the hardware that we interact with on a daily basis. Historically speaking, technology has garnered all sorts of images in the minds of people. Henry Ford's first automobiles were a marvel of technology at the time. Now we think more along the lines of a shiny new IPad2 or in my preference a Motorola Xoom.
Let me suggest that management techniques can also be a technology. Possibly a Technological Revolution.
Within the ideal of management techniques, leadership can't always be a logical process. There are many reasons for what I call the Leadership Curse, or the many pitfalls of striding down the path to Leadership.
Much like technology, leadership processes and ideas are relatively new. When I speak of leadership I'm obviously referring to just the opposite of the traditional command and control management styles that still stifle innovation and hold people back from learning and becoming that 1% in an organization that really shines.
I'm a father, a husband, a geek, and I started down the road of learning to be a leader because when I was saddled with being a supervisor I knew in my heart that there was a better way.
